I'm learning both french and german, and i definitely think french is a lot easier than german! german grammar is very difficult, and french vocabulary is quite similar to english, so that makes it easier as well.. The text book answer holds that french is easier. the answer is not that simple, however. first a bit of history. old english was a germanic language, very closely related to, and mutually understandable, with regard to dutch and german.. Answer: if you are planning to live in germany or austria or german cities of switzerland, learn german, if you are planning to live in france, belgium or french cities of switzerland or want to make business with africa, lebanon or far east, or want to work in french companies learn french. for latin america of course spanish beats them all..
First off, is german or french harder to learn (no it) and because it sounds beautiful, careful with those things. and german is a mess, no rules for plurals nor genders, extremely long words which are very different from the latin based ones, etc, plus germans use a lot of dialects meaning you wont be able to use it everywhere.. Best answer: i would have to agree with bilor that french is easier then german. granted, i have only taken a couple years of high school french, while i have been studying german for the past 9 years, so i have had much more experience learning about the german language then i have the french language.. In comparison, french, italian and spanish are known as the romance languages and function very differently to english, making them much harder to learn. this interesting table suggests that 40% of german words are similar to their english sounding counterparts. so, for example, 'bruder' and 'vater', which mean brother and father, are much more.
